throw-out meaning in Information Science terminology / glossary / dictionary is:

A leaf larger than the book block, usually bearing a map, table, diagram, wide-angle photograph, or other illustration, sewn or tipped in and folded so that it can be opened out for reference while the corresponding text is read.
