What is Lurch ?

Lurch is (noun) 1. a sudden unsteady movement The ship gave a sudden lurch. (NOTE: The plural is lurches.) 2. to leave someone in the lurch to leave someone in trouble and not help him or her (informal.) They left me in the lurch by going off on holiday when they were supposed to be running the shop. You’ve really left me in the lurch by cancelling at such short notice. (verb) to make a sudden unsteady movement When the taxi finally lurched to a stop I was shaking all over. He lurched over to the bar and ordered another drink.
