What is Lick ?

Lick is (noun) 1. a gentle movement of the tongue across the surface of something The dog gave him a friendly lick. Can I have a lick of your ice cream? 2. a quick coat of paint The door could do with a lick of paint. 3. a lick and a promise a quick wash (informal.) (verb) 1. to make a gentle movement with your tongue across the surface of something You shouldn’t lick the plate when you’ve finished your pudding. They licked their lips when they saw the cakes. to lick someone’s boots to do everything you can to please someone in authority 2. to beat, to hit to lick someone into shape to train someone to do something properly A few weeks with the army and he’ll soon be licked into shape.
