Alan Smithee credit meaning in Information Science terminology / glossary / dictionary is:
An official pseudonym, coined in 1968 for use in film credits by members of the Directors Guild of America (DGA), who wished to dissociate themselves from the official release of a film. A director dissatisfied with the final cut was entitled to use the pseudonym only after convincing members of a Guild panel that he or she had been denied creative control over the film.
