Definition(s): An entity that acts an intermediary between the CA and a prospective certificate subject; the CA trusts the ORA to verify the subject’s identity and that the subject possesses the private key corresponding to the public key to be bound to that identity in a certificate. Note that equivalent functions are referred to as Local Registration Authority (LRAs) or Registration Authorities (RAs) in some documents.
