Fair Hearing

What is Fair Hearing?

Fair Hearing meaning A hearing conducted by a hearing officer in the Health and Human Services Department which is requested by a welfare recipient when the recipient does not agree with a decision made by the county welfare department or the local child support agency affecting their eligibility. The purpose of the fair hearing is to take evidence and determine if a welfare recipient was correctly denied aid. One of the reasons for removing a welfare recipient from the CalWORKS program is the recipient’s lack of cooperation with the local child support agency.
