Water equivalent of snow

What is Water equivalent of snow?

Water equivalent of snow meaning The difference between the average precipitation over a drainage basin and the water yield from the basin for a given period. (After Williams and others, 1940, p. 3. ) The basic concept is that water loss is equal to evapotranspirationthat is, water that returns to the atmosphere and thus is no longer available for use. However, the term is also applied to differences between measured inflow and outflow even where part of the difference may be seepage.
