Prolactin

What is Prolactin?

Prolactin meaning A hormone produced by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland that is concerned with initialization and maintenance of lactation in the mammary glands. This hormone stimulates the ovary to release the developed ovum and prepares the uterus for implantation of a fertilized ovum. It also stimulates formation of the corpus luteum in the ovary, which secretes progesterone and readies the mammary glands for milk secretion.
