What is Special-pupose registry?

Special-pupose registry meaning Special-purpose registries collect information on one aspect or one type of cancer, such as those that collect information only on bone tumors, ovarian tumors, radiologically treated tumors, or tumors occurring in pediatric patients. Such registries are useful for a special type of clinic or for medical specialty groups. Some special-purpose registries collect information on non-cancerous conditions such as birth defects, stroke, AIDS or trauma. Others monitor specific procedures or medical devices such as ocular implants, heart and liver transplants, and silicone prosthetic implants. The type and purpose of these special-purpose registries are continually being expanded. The general guidelines that direct the establishment and structure of cancer registries can be applied to all types of registries.
