What is Thoracic cavity?

Thoracic cavity meaning The thoracic cavity is subdivided into the right and left pleural portions and the pericardial portion. The pleural portions contain the lungs covered by serous membranes called pleurae. The pericardial portion encompasses the heart. In addition to the heart, the area between the lungs (called the mediastinum) contains the trachea, esophagus, thymus, blood vessels, and lymphatic vessels and nodes. Part of the ventral cavity.
