BRCA2

What is BRCA2?

BRCA2 meaning BRCA2 or "Breast Cancer 2," is a genetic mutation that is present in both male and female heritable breast cancer, heritable ovarian cancer, and heritable prostate cancer. Less than 5% of cancers of the male and female breast, ovary, and prostate are attributable to the BRCA2 mutation. This is a gene on chromosome 13 that normally helps to suppress cell growth. A person who inherits certain mutations (changes) in a BRCA2 gene has a higher risk of getting breast, ovarian, prostate, and other types of cancer. For additional information, see http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/genetics/brca-fact-sheet
